Saturday was the day I dragged a few others out to test a new "trail" on others than myself. A handy pair of pruners will be useful to make the route a bit more clear through the leg-scratching manzanita, but other than losing the trail once, we all clambered to the top of what some were calling "Steve's Stairway to Hell". I dunno. It was hot, and we did go up, but I didn't see a single stair to make it easier!
Didn't bring the camera, so no pics yet. But the route is nearly 1000' of gain in just over a mile. Serious climb. I think I may try to turn it into a race: Climb like hell up, and then take Hobart Road down for a fast, fast descent.
After doing the ascent, I went a bit further up Hobart Rd. to the Ash Canyon turnoff, where I turned around with Abbey and Ann. Hector, Peter, Joe and Ben continued up the hill. I had things to do to prepare for a party in the afternoon.

Party you say? Yep. Our own Abbey turned 21. Or was it something a touch more? I forget. The evening was a fog of great food (handmade enchiladas: shrimp or chicken), side dishes out the wazoo, desserts to make you run longer and faster, tasty adult libations, outstanding company, and surprising weather (the wind wasn't blowing!).
The margy machine was cranking out margaritas and daquiris, quickly-emptying wine and beer bottles were spotted in the wild, and Kurt stopped by with a mini-keg of carbonated cranberry vodka concoctions. Yummers!
A grand time was had by all, and I must say, I have never seen anyone work a black-clad walker like that, especially after a glass (or two?) of various adult beverages!
As for the birthday girl? She is a treasure. Always a smile, always a helping hand, a fierce competitor. The best kind of person who brings out the best in a person. We all love you Abbey!
